Fairytale Céilí: Whispers of Sheela-na-Gig from the Hill of Kings

Collage created with Proserpine by Dante Gabriel Rossetti

MYTH & MOVEMENT CLASS

The word Céilí means a friendly visit, a social gathering, or a dance in Irish Gaelic. It represents a coming together in celebration of friendship, community and life.

Here, you will enter a moonlit realm where ancient tales come alive and wisdom flows through your body.

In this myth and movement class, you will be transported to the heart of the Celtic mythic imagination as a portal for inner-work.

Guest storyteller

Join Jennifer Murphy with guest storyteller, our wondrous seanchaí, Erica O’Reilly, for this month’s theme dreamed into being by Erica in co-creation with the ancestors during her recent time in Ireland.

We will venture to the kingdom of Tara, the place where all of Ireland’s ancient roads met, to meet the Sheela-na-Gig who stands on a lone menhir, a standing stone there, and wonder as we wander with her story:

Whispers of Sheela-na-Gig from the Hill of Kings - Medb, Sovereignty, and the Stories They Tried to Bury

What if the Sheela-na-Gig at Tara could speak? Would she be pleased with the tales told of the Sovereignty Goddess — or of one of Ireland’s most famous Queens, with a similar namesake?

Join us on a journey through time and myth, where the stories of the Goddess, the Queen, and the land itself awaken — inviting us to consider the many facets of feminine sovereignty and how we choose to tell their tales today.

As told by the Great Mother at the Gate.

About Erica

I am Erica O’Reilly, a sacred storyteller and theatre practitioner. I believe in the Irish matriarchal wisdom that runs deep in my blood and bones - that of the Mná Chaointe (the Keening Women) and the Mná Feasa (the Wise Women). I believe in my connection to the Áes Dána (People of the Arts) and the tradition of the Irish seanchaí to speak of magic, spirit, mythology, and change.

Into the Circle Theatre was born from the desire to share in the sacredness and healing power of storytelling through theatrical gatherings that nourish the soul, open the heart, and alight the spirit. My artistic vision is deeply rooted in a passion to create theatre that weaves Irish culture and history alongside hallowed tales of women remembering and reclaiming the wisdom of their body and the magic of their spirit.
